Director General of SDC in Bangladesh on four day visit

Sager will meet senior Government of Bangladesh  officials, development partners, and other key stakeholders, to discuss the national implementation of Agenda 2030

The Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Ambassador Manuel Sager, has arrived in Bangladesh on a four day visit.

The ambassador will be staying till Thursday, according to a press statement by SDC.

The objective of his visit is to understand the key developmental challenges Bangladesh is facing at present, including the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Cox’s Bazar. The ambassador will also take a first hand look into Switzerland’s development engagements in Bangladesh.

During the visit, Sager will meet senior Government of Bangladesh  officials, development partners, and other key stakeholders to discuss the national implementation of Agenda 2030. 

In the meeting, this agenda which is the current focus of socio economic developments in Bangladesh, and the Rohingya refugee issue, will be given the utmost importance.

On Monday, the ambassador will travel to Cox’s Bazar and visit the Rohingya refugee camps to observe the conditions of the refugee population and host communities. 

Sager will also meet Bangladeshi district officials, international and non government organization (NGO) representatives in order to discuss the humanitarian conditions in refugee camps.

Since 2017, Switzerland has donated more than $30 million in humanitarian aid to alleviate the sufferings of the Rohingya refugees and host communities.

Sager will also visit several SDC co-supported development projects in Gazipur and Narsingdi districts. 

Switzerland has been a committed and long standing development partner of Bangladesh. SDC is a Swiss government agency responsible for development cooperation in Bangladesh in several key areas such as income and economic development, democratic governance, and safer migration.
