A Dhaka court has sent to jail custody a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mirpur Model police station in connection with a rape case.
Abdur Rakib Khan, a sub-inspector (SI) of Mirpur Model police station, was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Thursday after he was arrested in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in connection with rape of a woman.
Meanwhile, a lawyer representing Mirpur police's SI Rakib, applied for bail.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sabbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury, however, sent the arrestee to jail until completion of investigation into the case.
The court also fixed January 7 for hearing of a petition seeking Rakib's bail in the case.
Earlier, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Inspector (investigation) Abul Kalam Azad said that a woman filed a case against Rakib for allegedly raping her on Thursday.
Following the filing of a rape case SI Rakib was arrested from Dhaka’s Agargaon area on the same night.
According to the case statement, SI Rakib raped the victim and made illicit video footage of the incident after seducing her with the assurance of marriage.
Inspector Azad also said the victim was sent to the One Stop Crisis Centre at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to undergo examinations and evidence collection for rape required for the case.
