Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam has said Japan will help build township and provide pure drinking water to Dhaka dwellers.
“Japan will help ensure supplying pure drinking water to the city dwellers and help in building townships like Singapore and Hong Kong,” he said.
The Minister made the statement after a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador Naoki ITO at the Secretariat on Sunday, reports UNB.
Prime Minister will inaugurate "Clean village, Clean city" project in January, the Minister said Japan will assist Bangladesh government in implementing the project.
Tazul Islam further said the government is prioritizing waste management, and Japan has invited Bangladesh to see their technology in this regard.
The minister said that the government is prioritizing waste management as garbage is increasing with the increase in per capital income.
“The drainage system in Dhaka should be developed and we will work together with Japan in this regard,” he said.
Japan has invested in Matarbari, Moheshkhali projects as well as they have investments in sewerage, city governance and water management sectors.
