Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the Bangladeshi people will not tolerate any vilifying remarks against Shahid Noor Hossain, who was killed in a protest rally during the regime of military dictator HM Ershad.

He made the statement while attending a discussion of Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit council on Tuesday.

He said: “I warn everyone not to cross the limit by passing vindictive remarks against Noor and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"People should think before talking as many politicians have been reborn under the just leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."

Regarding Ranga's comment and apology regarding Noor, he said: "No apologies come to use once the tongue slips.”

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the nation knows the role of Noor's sacrifice in re-establishing democracy of Bangladesh. "If anyone tries to slander Noor's honour, people will not tolerate it."

He furthered: "Even now people make comments like Sheikh Hasina will face the same fate as her father, which is not tolerable."

Obaidul said Sheikh Hasina has been at the forefront of the development of Bangladesh's democracy.

"Such hateful remarks only pollute the political atmosphere of this country, and we have tolerated enough...not anymore," the minister said.

In the discussion, Quader also criticized BNP founder Ziaur Rahman by saying: "Ziaur gave shelter to the assassins of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who later tried to kill Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2004."
