Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder has expressed his satisfaction over the verdict in the Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan murder case.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune after the verdict on Thursday, he said: "What we found out during the investigation, we could prove it in paper.
"We feel that all the accused are equally guilty over the murder."
"We are happy that our expectations were reflected in the court verdict," the PBI chief added.
On Thursday morning, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribune in Feni handed down death penalty to prime accused Md Sirajuddaula, and 15 others in the gruesome murder of Nusrat.
Sirajuddaula was the principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa where Nusrat was a student.
On May 29, the PBI submitted a charge sheet seeking death penalty for 16 people including Sirajuddaula.
On April 6, 18-year-old Nusrat Jahan, an alim examinee of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire in broad daylight on the roof of the madrasa by people loyal to principal Sirajuddaula, when she refused to withdraw a sexual harassment case her family filed against him on May 27.
After she was set on fire, her family filed another case against eight people, including Sirajuddaula, on April 8.
Nusrat succumbed to her critical burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on April 10, which sparked nationwide outrage and a public demand for swift justice against the perpetrators.
Finding the police negligent in the case, it was later handed over to PBI.
