Palak: Awareness, law enforcement needed for road safety

Awareness should be raised among the youths of the society, he said

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said awareness among people, better road design and enforcement of laws are important to ensure road safety.

"Drivers, transport owners, passengers and law enforcement agencies have to remain alert towards keeping roads safe round the year," Palak said at an event marking National Road Safety Day at a hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Pathao Limited, a local ride-hailing service provider, and Access to Information (a2i) program jointly organized the "Safety Fast" event to raise awareness about road safety.

Palak also said that there are 45 million students in schools, colleges and universities of the country. “Children and youths are the future of Bangladesh. Awareness should be created among them.”

Cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, MP, brand ambassador of Pathao, said that road safety is very important for everyone. "We will all have to remain alert. We all need to work together to bring discipline on roads and highways."

Hussain M Elius, chief executive officer (CEO) of Pathao, said, "Pathao is always working tirelessly to raise awareness about the safety and security of our riders and passengers. Specialized training is provided before the rider is incorporated into the ride-sharing service."
