Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the government will not interfere if any university decides to ban student politics.

“Every university has its own committee and they will take the decision,” the premier said while addressing a press conference on her recent US and India tour at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Buet students have placed an 8-point demand, including banning student politics, before the university authorities following the murder of Abrar Fahad inside Sher-E-Bangla residential hall on Monday.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Later, Bangladesh Chhatra League expelled 11 of its members permanently from the organization for their involvement in the murder.

The demonstrators also threaten to cancel Buet honours admission examinations through massive protests if their demands are not met.
