A seven-member medical board has been formed for the treatment of Samrat as he was placed under a 24-hour observation period at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).
“Medical tests performed have shown satisfactory results. We have placed him (Samrat) under a 24-hour observation period. Till now, his condition is stable and the decision of discharging Samrat will be taken tomorrow morning,” said Prof Dr Afzalur Rahman, head of the cardiology department of NICVD and the medical board, on Tuesday.
He added that all major tests have been done and rest will be done later.
Samrat was hospitalized having fallen sick at Keraniganj Central Jail.
Samrat was first taken to the CCU of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 7:35am, and then shifted to the NICVD in Agargaon at 7:55am yesterday.
“Samrat complained of a chest pain at the central jail around 6am,” Jail Guard Subedar Md Mujahidul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
Shahnaz Parvin Hira, Samrat’s lawyer while talking to the press about Samrat’s condition, appealed to the Prime Minister to send Samrat abroad for better treatment, she also complained that the law enforcers did not allow her to visit Samrat.
Hira also told the reporters that Samrat was supposed to go abroad to implant a pacemaker on September 10. He only stayed back so that he could wish the premier of the country on her birthday.
She hoped that she will be allowed to sit along Samrat during his interrogation.
On October 6, RAB arrested Dhaka South Jubo League President Samrat, and his accomplice Arman from the Chauddagram upazila of Comilla, over their alleged involvement with illicit casino operations.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam sentenced Samrat, under the Wildlife (preservation and security) Act, six months in prison for keeping two kangaroo hides in his possession.
On Monday RAB filed two cases against expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and his accomplice Arman.
The cases against Samrat and Arman were filed with the Ramna police station.
Samrat was sued under the narcotics and arms acts, while Arman was sued under the Narcotics Act only.
Several hours after the arrest, Dhaka South city unit Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and Vice President Arman were expelled from the ruling party youth wing for breaching party discipline and carrying out unethical practices.
Iqbal Mahmood Bablu, publication secretary of the Central Jubo League, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune Sunday afternoon.
After being suspected of running illegal casinos, Samrat was issued with a travel ban and had gone into hiding, according to police.
