Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has demolished nearly 4,000 illegal establishments and recovered 11 acres of land from encroachers in Dhaka through separate drives in the last 10 days.
The drives, launched to free footpath and roads from illegal encroachers, started on September 22 from Uttara where 300 establishments were bulldozed.

Executive magistrates of DNCC sentenced two persons to three months and seven days imprisonment respectively and imposed a fine Tk3lakh on the charge of encroaching road illegally, said a press release issued by DNCC on Wednesday.
In a drive on September 26, DNCC knocked down 330 illegal establishments in Uttara and Karwan Bazar and fined Tk4 lakh against the offenders. In separate drives at Karwan Bazar and Khilkhet, the authority evicted 1,100 establishments.

On September 29, eviction drives at Bhasantek and Uttara knocked down 550 establishments and jailed offenders for 15 days and fined them Tk2.1 lakh.
On September 30, the biggest drive was conducted at Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Uttara and Mirpur Section-6 areas simultaneously where 1,550 illegal establishments were knocked down and fine worth Tk3.64 lakh was imposed.
In the latest drive, which was conducted at Gabtoli in Dhaka, 150 illegal establishments were knocked down and eleven acres of land was recovered from the encroachers.
