Several first-year students of Dhaka University (DU) have given an ultimatum to the vice-chancellor to solve the ongoing accommodation crisis in the residential dormitories within 15 days.
The students also threatened to take shelter at DU VC Prof M Akhtaruzzman’s residence if he fails to find a solution to the crisis.
Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, a member of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), came up with this threat during a student rally held at Raju Memorial of TSC on Tuesday.

Tanbir also said: “The university should admit new students only after solving the current accommodation problem. If the authorities cannot accommodate the current first year, then how will they make proper arrangements for new comers?
“A proper environment to study and a place to sleep should be ensured first,” the graduate Ducsu member added.
Earlier, Tanbir started staying with the first year students at Kabi Jasim Uddin hall’s Gonoroom leaving his own residential seat empty.
He also announced that he would not resume staying at his seat, if university authorities failed to provide legal seats for the students of first year.
