The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have terminated its two assistant professors from their position as they did not join work after expiry of their study leave tenure.
The two teachers are – Nafiz Zaman of Information Science and Library Management department, and Md Ahsanul Akbar of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
The decision was made at a meeting of the DU syndicate, the highest governing body of the university, with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair on Sunday night.
Associate Professor Humayun Kabir, a syndicate member, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Both of them went on study leave, but did not return to their posts within the due dates, he said.
They were also asked to return the financial benefits they had derived from the university, he said.
In another context, Khairul Bashar, an office staff of Social Welfare and Research Institute, was sent to forced leave on allegations of theft.
A three-member probe body, headed by Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin, was formed in this regard, he added.
