Miscreants have indiscriminately hacked a woman and her daughter inside their house in the city’s Jurain area.
The incident took place around 12pm on Thursday.
Kadamtali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the matter.
The injured are Momtaz Begum, 40, and her daughter Rumana Akhter, 20. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Doctors said both of them are in critical condition.
According to relatives, the injured live on the 2nd floor of a five-storied building in Jurain and Rumana’s father is a grocery trader.
A neighbor, Md Sajib Hossain, who took the injured to the hospital, said he saw Rumana running out of their flat covered in blood.
Local people caught one person from the scene, while another one managed to escape.
Momtaz identified one of the attackers as Shahidul, who used to work at her husband’s store.
The reason for the attack is yet to be known.
