A septuagenarian garment businessman died at a private hospital in Dhaka on Friday night after being found critically injured inside his residence at Gulshan earlier in the day.
The victim is KYM Mahbubur Rahman, aged around 73.
Gulshan police's officer in-charge (OC) Abu Bakkar Siddique on Saturday said Mahbubur's family went to visit one of their relatives at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Thursday, leaving him at home along with his caretaker.
Returning home the next day, they found him lying on the floor with blood coming out of his left hand, cheek and head, he said.
The businessman was instantly rushed to Apollo Hospitals where he succumbed to his injuries at night.
Meanwhile, the caretaker, whose name could not be known immediately, has been unaccounted for ever since the incident.
Police suspect that Mahbubur might be murdered by known faces as they launched a probe into his business and family disputes.
The body was later sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy.
As of 10pm, neither police managed to detain anybody, nor a case was filed in this connection.
