The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested SMHI Faruque, land owner of FR Tower, in a case filed over forgery in the design of the building which caught fire on March 27.
ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said an ACC team-- led by its deputy director Abu Bakar Siddique-- arrested Faruque from Dhaka’s Gulshan area around 1:30pm on Monday.
Around 25 people were killed and 73 others injured in the massive fire that broke out in the FR Tower on March 27.

Earlier on June 25, ACC filed two cases against 23 people, including the FR Tower owners and two chairmen of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), for their alleged involvement in illegally extending Banani’s FR Tower beyond the permitted number of floors.
ACC arrested Rajuk Assistant Director Shah Md Badrul Alam on July 30 while one of the other owners of building, Tasvirul Islam, was arrested on Sunday.
