3 die of dengue in Dhaka, Barisal

A total of 2,326 people infected with dengue hospitalized across the country in 24 hours

Three people including two minor boys have died after being diagnosed with dengue at different hospitals in Dhaka and Barisal.

Rifat, 10, son of Khorshed of Jamalpur, died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 12:30am on Friday.

According to the hospital registrar, he was admitted to DMCH with dengue fever on August 8 and died while undergoing treatment.

With this, a total of 22 people have died of dengue at DMCH.

Earlier on Thursday morning, a college girl, identified as KhaledaParvin, 25, a degree student of MadhukhaliGovtAinuddin College in Faridpur, died of dengue at DMCH.

Meanwhile, MehrazHasan, 8, died at United Hospital around 8:59am on Friday, said sources at the hospital, reports UNB.

In Barisal, another dengue infected patient died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on early Friday.

The deceased is Mojibor Rahman, 55, general secretary of Barguna Rifles Club.

Confirming the matter, SBMCH Director DrBakir Hossain said: "Mojibor was admitted at the hospital at 11pm Thursday in a critical condition. He was suffering from diarrhea and dengue infections."

He died while undergoing treatment at around 2am Friday, the SBMCH director added.

With this, the dengue death toll at SBMCH rose to three.

Dengue situation unabated across country 

A total of 2,326 people infected with dengue were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing a slight fall in the number of such patients from the previous day.

Of the new dengue cases, 1,158 were reported from the capital alone with one suffering from dengue hemorrhagic, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Since the beginning of the dengue outbreak this year, 34,666 patients have beenhospitalized and 25,872 discharged after recovery, according to the DGHS data.

At least 8,765 patients, including children, are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals and of them, 5,140 are in Dhaka.
