To tackle the dengue menace across the country, a 50-bed dengue unit has been established at Institute of Child and Mother Health (IMCH) in Matuail, Dhaka under the care of the Directorate General of Health Services.
The information was unveiled at a discussion meeting of the DGHS, with Health Minister Zahid Maleque as the chief guest, at its headquarters in Mohakhali around 9am Thursday.
It was organized by Mugda Medical College, with the cooperation of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

DGHS also helped raise awareness about dengue prevention by working with Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA) and students of 32 medical colleges in Dhaka and nearby areas.
Bangladesh Pediatric Association also exchanged views at a meeting with the DGHS on Thursday morning. The association, with the cooperation of DGHS, will provide training to pediatricians of two private medical hospitals, on the clinical management of dengue infected patients, from August 10.
The association also gave instructions on clinical management to the teachers of pediatrics and pediatricians of Sadar, medical college and medical college hospitals, through video conferencing.
The Communicable Disease Control (CDC) of the DGHS has distributed dengue NS1 kits among the Sadar hospitals in all 64 districts.

Earlier on Wednesday, CDC and Bangladesh Medicine Society (BMS) held a video conference with the civil surgeons and Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of medicine and pediatricians of 26 districts on dengue management guideline.
On Thursday, 25 other districts will be covered.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque spoke at the discussion meeting. Director General of DGHS Prof DrAbulKalam Azad, Director of CDC Dr Sania Tahmina, Director of Management Information System (MIS) Dr Samir Kanti Sarkar, Line Director of Hospital Service Management Dr Satyakam Chakrabarty , Program Manager (Dengue) Dr MM Akhtaruzzaman and other officials of DGHS were also present.
