Four members of the same family, including children, sustained burn injuries in Dhaka's Kathalbagan area.

Locals rescued magician Maniruzzaman Liton, 42, his wife Maria Ferdous Tumpa, 27, daughter Laiva, 8, and 9-month-old son Livan, from their residence Monday morning, and admitted them to the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

A short circuit in an AC unit caused the fire, confirmed Rayhanul Ashraf, senior officer of Mohammadpur Fire Service and Civil Defence station.

Locals rushed the victims to the hospital before the fire fighters reached the scene, he added.

"Two of the four victims are in critical condition," said Dr Partha Shankar Pal, resident surgeon of DMCH's burn unit.

Liton, Tumpa, Laiva and Livan have been hospitalized with 50%, 25%, 17% and 7% burn injuries respectively, he added.
