Sayeed Khokon: The right clothing can save people from dengue mosquito bites

Islamic clerics at the event urged everyone to arrange mass prayers seeking relief from the dengue outbreak

Update : 04 Aug 2019, 09:05 PM

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon urged people to wear ethnic clothing covering as much of the body as possible to save themselves from mosquito bites.

“If we wear long-sleeved punjabis, full length pajamas and socks, we can keep ourselves safe from mosquito bites,” said the mayor.

Children should be encouraged to wear long sleeved clothing and to cover their feet as well, he said yesterday, speaking at a Nagar Bhaban views-exchange meeting in Dhaka with Islamic clerics regarding the dengue menace.

He also said they are aware that people in this city are significantly affected by dengue fever and that the number of dengue infected patients will come down very soon.

Islamic clerics at the event urged everyone to arrange mass prayers seeking relief from the dengue outbreak.

Echoing the mayor, Islamic clerics said Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to wear long sleeved clothing and recommended his followers do the same.

The mayor distributed mosquito sprays to the Islamic clerics and urged them to spray insecticide in each and every mosque  to prevent mosquitoes biting people in prayer at dawn and dusk, the time at which the aedes mosquito is most active.

“Muslims go to the mosques for prayers at that time. So, the mosque authorities need to be careful,” he said.

Stressing the importance of waste management during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the mayor said people need to be extra careful at that time.

He urged all to make sure they clean where animals will be slaughtered so that the dengue situation does not intensify further.
