Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said the new sample of insecticide to kill mosquito will arrive in a day or two from abroad.

The mayor told this to reporters on Friday while inaugurating a campaign for creating awareness to prevent dengue and eliminating Aedes mosquito.

The Aedes mosquitoes are instrumental in transmitting the dengue virus which is in a state of outbreak in Bangladesh currently.

DNCC and Ministry of Youth and Sports organized the campaign jointly at a school at Uttara in Dhaka, read a press release.

The mayor said the north city corporation itself, from now on, can buy the insecticide.

However, quality of the pesticide would be tested by the authorities concerned, he said.

After completing the test, the insecticide will be purchased as soon as possible, said Atiqul Islam.

He said: "We have no lack of sincerity on our part to remove the dengue menace, but we will have to work round the year over the issue."

Both DNCC and Ministry of Youth and Sports will start working in the 54 wards from August 5 to get rid of Aedes mosquito. Every ward is divided into 10 zones.

The mayor, however, urged local people, students, scouts, youth organizations to work with unity in every ward under the leadership of DNCC ward committee and regional executive officials.

A press release of DNCC said, mobile courts will conduct drives at homesteads alongside different establishments to check if there was any mosquito breeding ground.

"Legal action will follow the house owners if the mobile court finds presence of mosquito breeding ground in their houses," it said.
