Update : 07 Jul 2019, 12:40 PM

The fire, which broke out at the central library of Dhaka University, has been doused.

No books were burnt in the fire but the electric connection of the library was severely damaged.

Khandakar Abdul Jalil, deputy assistant director of fire service, told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire broke out on the ground floor of the three-storey building around 10:45am on Sunday.

“The fire originated from electric short circuit. Library employees put out the flame themselves before members of fire service reached the spot.”

No other floor was damaged in the fire, he said.

Mahmuda Sabiha, a sociology student, said: ”I was reading on the third floor when I saw a huge smoke coming out from air conditioner. We rushed out of the library immediately.”

He said: “While getting down, I saw that the fire broke out on the ground floor.”
