1 dead, 3 injured in Green Road fire

The three injured are still in critical condition and under treatment at DMCH burn unit

One of the four injured in the fire that broke out at Dhaka’s Comfort Hospital Sunday morning, has died.

Rasel, son of Badol Sheikh of Haldia union, Munshiganj, sustained 62% burns in the fire and breathed his last around 8:15pm undergoing treatment at the  Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) burn unit on Sunday.

Rasel lived in Dhaka's Jinjira.  

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Resident Doctor Partha Shankar Pal said: "Rasel died around 8:15pm. 

"His body has been kept at the morgue."

The injured are transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment | Dhaka TribuneAccording to the fire service, the fire started around 9am Sunday morning and was put out by the time a fire service unit reached the hospital in Green Road. The injured were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The four injured – Rasel, 30, with 62% burns, Foyez, 23, with 40% burns, Rakib, 22, with 37% and Sujon, 19, with 18% burns – were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, DMCH.

"The three remaining alive are in critical condition," Pal added.

Inspector Bacchu Mia with the DMCH police outpost said the four victims had entered a room on the ground floor of the hospital to renovate it.

“When they flipped a switch, there was a loud explosion and all four were severely burnt,” the police officer told Dhaka Tribune.
