Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing has said the government is trying to improve the mutual understanding between Pahari (indegineous/ethnic minority), and Bengali people living in the region.
The Minister talked about ensuring coexistence while speaking at a roundtable discussion at the National Press Club, Dhaka on Thursday, reports UNB.
“Stability is the precondition of peace, and coexistence. If we can ensure this in the CHT region, we would be able to continue the ongoing development works like the other parts of the country.
It is also mandatory for all to abide by the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord- 1997,” he said.
The minister emphasized on stability in CHT area saying:“Everyone in CHT region wants peace but some people are trying to instigate conflict between Pahari, and Bengali communities for their own interests."
Without the help of all stakeholders, government alone cannot implement the peace accord in CHT, he further added.
