Dhaka residents may have to wait another six months to have their first ever “anger management park,” currently under construction at Osmani Udyan in Dhaka’s Gulistan area.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) announced construction of the park in January 2018 in a bid to help the more than 17 million inhabitants of the city.
The park will be constructed at a cost of Tk58 crore under a project called Water Green Dhaka.
Although the city corporation authorities earlier announced the park would be completed within 12-14 months from the start of construction, it is now expected to take another six months, officials said.
During a visit to the park area on Sunday, this Dhaka Tribune correspondent saw construction workers building at the park area with bricks and other materials.
Called Goswa Nibaroni Park by city corporation authorities, the park will feature a lake, music, a giant television screen and a snacks corner, said the project manager of the park, engineer Asaduzzaman Nur.
He said the park construction is taking more time because of the introduction of new features to help inhabitants deal with rising stress.
“This park will be open for all. There will be 24-hour camera surveillance monitoring the whole area, while a large TV screen will feature different sides of the park,” the engineer told the Dhaka Tribune.
DSCC Public Relations Officer Uttam Kumer Rai said the park, which is the first ever of its kind, will host unique features.
According to a study by the UK-based firm Zipjet launched in September 2017, Dhaka is the seventh most stressful city in the world, and tops the list of most stressed cities in Asia.
The study ranked 150 cities using factors such as levels of traffic congestion, quality of public transport, presence of greenery, hours of sunlight and the financial status of the citizens.
