Renowned poet Helal Hafiz has been admitted to hospital after he fell ill due to respiratory problems.
The poet was admitted to Labaid Hospital in Dhaka around 11pm on Tuesday, confirmed Saifur Rahman Lenin, assistant general manager (communications) at Labaid Specialized Hospital.
"The poet was diagnosed with fever and respiratory problems," he added."He will be checked by a pulmonologist."
Hafiz is currently under the treatment of Prof Monzurul Rahman of the hospital's medicine department.
A recipient of Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2013, Hafiz’s first collection of poems “Je Jwale Agun Jwale,” published in 1986, earned him huge acclaim.
Twelve editions of it have been published so far.
His second collection, "Kobita 71," was published 26 years later in 2012.
Born in Netrokona, Helal Hafiz graduated from Dhaka University.
