Jute mill workers are continuing their demonstration for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, demanding wages and arrears.
Workers in their hundreds from Latif Bawani Jute Mills and Karim Jute Mills started the protest around 5:30am on Thursday, near the Demra intersection and Demra Staff Quarter area, blocking roads demanding payment of their outstanding wages.
Demra police station Inspector (operations), Nur Alam Siddique, confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune said: “We are aware of the matter. Police have already been deployed to prevent any untoward situation.”

Police are working to divert the traffic to different roads as congestion has aggravated in the surrounding areas of Demra, he added.
The jute mill workers ended their protests for Thursday around 4pm and said that they vowed to take to the streets again on Saturday.
The blockade created a huge traffic gridlock in the area, causing immense suffering to locals during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Workers said they are protesting to have their nine-point demand met, that includes payment of due wages and arrears.
They warned of going for a tougher movement from May 13, if the government does not meet their demands.
Some 1,000 agitating workers of the two jute mills are engaged in the protest, putting up road barricades, demanding arrears and due wages.
