On Thursday, a 21-year-old Brac University student Fahmida Haque Labannya was killed in a road accident in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Labannya was a passenger on the motorcycle ridden by Sumon. She reportedly fell off the bike when the rider abruptly pressed the brakes to avoid colliding with a person crossing the road, and was immediately run over by a covered van in front of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases around 10:45am, said the OC.

But, we are investigating the matter before coming to any conclusions, he added.

Labannya sustained critical injuries on the right side of her head. She was declared dead by doctors after bystanders took her to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Labannya was a third-year student of computer science and engineering department of Brac University.

Investigation officer of the case, SI Nurul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that Labannya’s father filed a case in the incident.

“We questioned the motorcyclist. He is also injured and currently undergoing treatment. We did not arrest him but he is under surveillance,” he added.
