Chairman of National Human Rights Commission in Bangladesh (NHRC), Kazi Rezaul Hoque, has asked the government to observe the day of death of madrasa student Nusrat as Nusrat Day.
The NHRC chief was talking to the media after visiting the forensic department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to see Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa student who died on Wednesday battling 80% burn injuries after being set on fire by unknown miscreants on April 6.
“Nusrat protested. She did not bow her head to principle’s sexual offer. The day should be remembered as Nusrat Day,” he said.
He added that said criminals nowadays do not fear being placed on remand.

The NHRC chief said: “Criminals do not fear remand anymore. At least I have not seen them to be afraid.
"If the punishment is visible and executed soon, then the dread in general people’s mind will be released.”
He also sought punishment for the officer-in-charge of the Sonagazi police station who allegedly harassed the victim and her family.
“He should also be brought to trial because this is a disgrace,” he added.
Nusrat’s family says the girl was set on fire by supporters of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal, Sirajuddaula, on the institute’s roof on April 6, for previously lodging a rape attempt case against him.
