Six people who were stuck in a lift of the Supreme Court’s annex building have been rescued safely after 45 minutes.

Firefighters were called in, but the building staff managed to rescue them before their arrival at the scene on Wednesday.

Witnesses said, one of the lifts at the Supreme Court’s Annex building stopped between the ground and first floors at around 2:30pm.

“One of those trapped inside the lift, Section Officer Kismat, called me on my phone and I informed the matter to 999 emergency services and rushed to the scene,” said Md Yaseen Sheikh, who works as an assistant to a lawyer.

The building staff managed to bring out the six – two lawyers, two court officials, a lawyer’s assistant, and a woman – after nearly 45 minutes, he said.

“Being informed, we rushed there to rescue the trapped people, but just after reaching there, the lift started working automatically and they came out,” said Station Officer Mizanur Rahman of Fire Services and Civil Defence headquarters.

The incident might have happened due to technical problem, he added.

Earlier on March 7, at least 10 people including seven lawyers were injured as a 30-year-old lift at the old building of Dhaka District and Session Judges' Court collapsed.
