He said that if the demands are not met by Monday, tougher measures will be adopted

Vice-President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur has given an ultimatum for action—against the alleged attackers at Sir Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall—to be taken by Monday, April 8.

The decision came after a protest rally held in front of the Raju Memorial, after a discussion with the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University Prof Akhtaruzzaman, on Wednesday.

"I believe our demands will be met," he said. "My discussion about the issue of the attack at Sir Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall has been fruitful."

Ducsu Social Welfare Secretary Aktar Hossain, Shamsunnahar Hall VP Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi and Ducsu VP candidates—Auroni Semonti Khan, Rashed, Talim Hossain Rizvi, Shafi Abdullah, Raihan, Faruk—also attended with Nur.

Nur demanded exemplary punishment for those who allegedly attacked and assaulted Nur and the above-mentioned student leaders when they went to SM Hall to meet its provost on Tuesday.

They had gone to formally protest against an assault—allegedly carried out by Chhatra League activists—on Farid Hasan, who had collected a nomination form for the general secretary post in hall union elections.

However, when they went to the hall to meet its provost, Chhatra League activists allegedly slapped the VP, and tried to bar them from meeting the provost by throwing eggs at them.

"Proper actions were not taken against Chhatra League despite their involvement in various attacks carried out on the university premises," Nur said. "If the authority does not take any action against them by Monday, we will go for tougher measures."

However, the VP believes his demands will be met, as the university authorities assured them they will take care of the matter.

In his meeting with the vice-chancellor, the VP also demanded the expulsion of those illegally staying in various halls.
