Update : 12 Mar 2019, 11:15 AM

Chhatra League members have gathered near the vice-chancellor's residence, protesting the results of the Dhaka University Central Student Union (Ducsu) election.

They have burned four tires during the protest, which began on Tuesday morning.

An elected member of the Chhatra League-supported Ducsu panel, Rakibul Hasan Rakib—also Chhatra League's former leader—confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

The protestors are chanting that they do not accept the "farcical election," and are demanding a new election be held; plus that the Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman resign.

The protest for a new election was announced on Monday, after candidates of different panels in the election boycotted the polls due to irregularities.

The major cases of irregularities occurred at Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, a few minutes before polls were scheduled to open.

Around 11:30am, voting at Ruqayyah Hall was suspended after students clamoured against vote rigging, but resumed at 3pm.
