Bangla Academy announces ‘Gunijon Sahitya Puroskar’

The awards will be handed to winners on the closing day of Amar Ekushey Book Fair

Bangla Academy has announced the list of winners for "Gunijon Sahitya Puroskar" chosen from the publishing houses participating at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

The awards will be handed to winners on the closing day of the month-long fair on Thursday, said a press release of Bangla Academy issued on Sunday evening.

Kothaprokash will receive the "Chittaranjan Saha Smriti Puroskar 2019."

"Munier Chowdhury Smriti Puraskar 2019" will be given for the publication of aesthetically rich and standard content in books published in 2018.

This award will be received by Prothoma publications for “Bidrohi Ronoklanto” by Golam Murshid, Journey Books publication for “Monorothe Shilper Pathe” by Moinuddin Khaled, and Chandrabati Academy for “Muthor Vetor Rod” by Maruful Islam.

The "Rokonuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Smriti Puraskar" will be awarded to Panjaree Publications for publishing excellent books for children, while the "Qayyum Chowdhury Smriti Puraskar" will be given to three publications: Maddoma (Single Unit), Batighar (Multi-Unit), and Panjaree Publication (Pavilion) for best interior design.

The month-long book fair, an annual event for booklovers and publishers, began on February 1 at the Bangla Academy premises and adjoining Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also presented the Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar 2018 at the opening ceremony.

Like in previous years, the venue of the fair was extended to Suhrawardy Udyan with major changes.

This year, the land earmarked for the fair was expanded to 550,000 square feet, 37,000 more than the previous year. A total of 770 units were allocated to 499 organizations.

The authorities allotted a total of 150 units at the Bangla Academy premises to 104 organizations, and 620 at Suhrawardy Udyan to 395 organizations.

24 pavilions were allocated for 24 publishing houses, including Bangla Academy.

The fair will remain open from 3pm to 9pm on the last two days.
