A newborn female baby has been rescued from the female ward bathroom at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The incident occurred on Sunday morning.
The baby was admitted to the newborn unit of the hospital.
Inspector of DMCH police outpost Md Bacchu Mia confirmed the incident.
DMCH newborn unit Honorary Medical Officer Dr Abu Obaida said: “The child was born prematurely. She weighs only 800 grams, and is currently receiving medical treatment.
“She is having problem breathing, as her lungs were not properly developed at the time of birth.”
The child was found by a woman who went into the bathroom and saw the baby on the floor. She screamed and people gathered at the spot.
A ward employee rescued her and notified the hospital authorities. They instructed the baby to be admitted to the hospital for proper care.
