Inaugural session of the Jessup Moot Court Competition held

The renowned competition gathers law students from more than 100 countries in the international round

The inauguration session of the national round of 3rd Bangladesh Qualifying Round of Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2019 was held at Amari Dhaka hotel in the capital on Thursday.

The session was moderated by Dhaka University’s Law Department teacher Prof Dr Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, who is also the vice president of the Bangladesh chapter of Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL Bangladesh).

Inaugurating the event, chief guest Attorney General Mahbubey Alam expressed his delight in attending the program.

Addressing the participants of the competition, he shared his view regarding the skills of a lawyer while comparing the submission of lawyers with a form of art.

City Group Marketing Manager Md Farjanul Hoque; Supreme Court lawyer and the competition’s national round Administrator Advocate ASM Sayem Ali Pathan; Prof Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Law Department adviser at IUB and president of AsianSIL Bangladesh; and Eric Opanga, resident legal adviser, US Department of Justice, OPDAT, US Embassy, Dhaka were also present, among others, at the event.

The renowned moot court competition generally gathers law students from more than 100 countries in the international round.

This is the third time that Bangladesh is hosting a national qualifying round.

International Law Students Association Bangladesh in association with the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT) of the US Department of Justice, City Group, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and Bangladesh Chapter of the AsianSIL Bangladesh, are organizing the competition.
