Minister: NHA to build 533 flats in Mirpur for lower income slum dwellers

The minister mentioned approval of more flat construction projects is now underway

Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said the National Housing Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has taken a rent basis 533 residential flat construction project for the slum dwellers of Mirpur in Dhaka.

“As per the declaration by the prime minister, nobody will remain homeless. We will ensure housing for all. The NHA has taken up the project of housing for the lower income people at Mirpur section-11,” said the minister while responding a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker Mahfuzur Rahman of Chittagong-3 in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhruy in the chair.

He said the prime minster on October 26, 2017 laid the foundation stone of the project.

“The implementation of the project is now underway,” he said.

The minister mentioned the project will be complete by 2020.

In addition to this, Karim said implementation of a project for development housing is now underway at three municipality and city corporation areas in Comilla, Sirajganj and Narayanganj for the lower income people.

With the assistance of the World Bank, he said a total of 5,700 units of housing will be constructed under the project.

He said approval of more flat construction projects is now underway.

10,530 flats will be constructed for slum dwellers and lower income people under two separate projects at Mirpur in Dhaka and 2,688 residential flats will be constructed at Bakulia in Chittagong.

“Necessary steps will be taken to ensure cost-effective flat and plot allotment among the homeless people,” the minister added.
