After suffering gas outage and low pressure for more than 24 hours, Dhaka is set to experience another similar situation.
Relocation of pipelines to facilitate construction of the metro rail project will cause a disruption in gas supply across the city for 12 hours from 6am on Tuesday.
Md Kamruzzaman Khan, director (operation) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL), said: “Areas in the city, excluding Uttara, Gulshan, Banani, parts of Mirpur and Jatrabari, will suffer a low gas pressure, while the rest of the areas will face an outage.
Earlier on Saturday, gas outage began in the city and adjoining areas from 8am due to maintenance work at the city gas station (CGS) in Ashulia.
Talking about Saturday’s gas crisis, he said the problem has already been fixed as the normal supply of gas was restored across the city in the morning.
On Friday night, Gas Transmission Company Ltd (GTCL) received a complaint about a gas leak at the gas station in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka. Later, a technical team was sent to investigate the matter on Saturday morning.

GTCL west zone’s General Manager (Operations), Abu Sayed Mahmud, said they detected a leak on a 20-inch diameter pipeline at the GTCL gas station.
The TGTDCL is already facing a shortfall of at least 300mmcfd against its demand of around 2,200mmcfd. In Dhaka metropolitan area alone, the demand is around 1,700mmcfd.
With 2,783,134 consumers-- including 44 power plants, 1,630 captive power producers, and 5,128 industrial units-- the TGTDCL supplies gas under eight categories in Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.
Number of Titas’ household users are 2,764,247 while number of commercial users are 11,688.
