A surveillance team of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) sealed off five drinking water companies and destroyed 1200 unauthorized water jars in a drive in multiple areas of Dhaka on Monday.
They filed cases against two filling stations for their involvement in weight manipulation, said a press release.
The sealed companies were Vikrampur Drinking Water in Sayedabad, ST Drinking Water in Jatrabari, Energy Drinking Water in North Jatrabari, as well as Satej Drinking Water and Ma Enterprise in Shyampur.

They destroyed more than 1200 jars of water in the city’s Sayebad, Jatrabari, and Shyampur areas, as those were distributed commercially without BSTI’s approval.
Locals said jar water companies are doing brisk business supplying water to scores of small and medium commercial establishments in the capital.
Cases were filed against two filling stations, Trust Filling Station and City Filling Station, in Tejgaon and Kalyanpur respectively, as they were found guilty of weight manipulation in providing fuel.
The drive was led by Md Anower Hossen Molla, meteorology director of BSTI.
