Update : 19 Mar 2017, 03:11 AM
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq has said the city corporation is mulling planting some 5 lakh trees in the DNCC area. He made the announcement on Saturday while inaugurating a cleanliness campaign launched by Gulshan Society, a community organisation comprised of residents of posh Gulshan. The mayor said: “We are finding out ways to plant 5 lakh trees even though a recent survey reveals that there is no adequate space to plant trees any more in the area. “Sometimes it becomes necessary to fell some of the trees that block drainage system or are on the verge of breaking down. Therefore, we are planning to plant new trees to fill up those gaps.” About footpaths blocked by vendors and hawkers, he said they were working to free the footpaths, and motorcyclists driving their bikes on the footpaths would be brought to book. The DNCC is installing 5,200 CCTVs, and the whole area will be brought under the coverage of LED lights, he added.
