'New Market intersection to be blocked again on Tuesday'

Update : 13 Mar 2017, 05:49 PM
Home Economics college students have announced they will block the New Market intersection again on Tuesday, demanding their college be upgraded as a full-fledged institute under Dhaka University. Sabrina Sultana, a student at the college, told the Dhaka Tribune that they would stage a blockade again at the intersection from around 10am Tuesday. The students also staged a blockade at the same location from 10:45am till 2pm on Monday, and are planning to resume their protest on the following day. Students of the college have boycotted classes and exams since Saturday and vowed not to return to classes until their demands are met. They had demonstrated on October 4 last year to press for the same demand, which the authorities later assured they would consider. But no initiative was taken. Their demands also include providing transport facilities, quality education and a solution to the accommodation problem, as well as appointing adequate skilled teachers and arranging sufficient classrooms.
