Home Economics students block New Market intersection

Update : 13 Mar 2017, 06:49 PM
Home Economics College students have blocked the New Market intersection, demanding their college be upgraded as a full-fledged institute under the Dhaka University. The blockade started around 10:45am on Monday. Sabrina Sultana, a student of the college, told Dhaka Tribune: “We will continue our blockade until the authorities concerned declare Home Economics an institute under Dhaka University. “We have been boycotting classes and exams since Saturday and the classes will not resume until our demands are met." She said they had demonstrated on October 4 last year to press for the same demand, which the authorities later assured they would consider. “They have taken no initiative to meet our demands.” Their demands also include autonomy, transport facility, quality of education, elimination of an accommodation problem, appointing of adequate skilled teachers and sufficient classrooms.
