Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been honoured with the title “Mother of Qawmi.”
She was given the title at a rally called “Shokrana Mahfil,” at Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka, on Sunday, for recognizing the top Qawmi degree, the highest degree equal to a post-graduation in the madrasa education system.
“Today I am giving you the title of mother of Qawmi,” Mufti Ruhul Amin, chief of Gopalganj’s Gawhardanga madrasa, said in his speech.
Mufti Ruhul said the prime minister is a mother figure for 1.4 million students.
Al-Hiyatul Ulya Lil-Zami’atil Qawmiya Bangladesh, the highest organization of Dawra-e-Hadith of the Qawmi madrasa, organized the rally following the government’s recognition of the Dawra-e-Hadith (Takmil) degree of the Qawmi madrasa system.
The prime minister was the chief guest and the organization’s chairman, Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi, chaired the event.
Later, Shafi handed a letter of thanks to the prime minister.
Branding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with title “Qawmi Janani,” the chairman of Qawmi Madrassa Education Board, Gowhardanga, said: “You are the mother of Qawmi. If you were not there, anti-Sahaba and Olema people who are the Jamaat, pro-Moududis would not let it happen.”
Awami League’s Religious Affairs Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah told the gathering: “As the sons of Qawmi Janani, they also have
some responsibilities. We want your cooperation in their activities.”
At the program, noted Islamic thinker Maulana Fariduddin Masud urged the prime minster to award Shah Ahmed Shafi, the Swadhinata Padak, the highest civilian award. He also demanded monthly allowance of Tk5,000 for Imams and Tk3,000 for muazzins.
On April 11, 2017, the prime minister had announced that the government would recognize the Dawra-e Hadith Certificate in Qawmi madrasa with the status of postgraduate degrees of Islamic Studies and Arabic and the circular was issued on April 13, 2017.
