A man, injured in a fire in Dhaka’s Uttara, has died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Eight people, including four women and one child, suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out following a gas pipeline leakage at their flat in Beparipara around 3:30am on Saturday.
They were taken to DMCH burn unit where Azizul, 27, died around 10:15am, reports Bangla Tribune.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of DMCH police outpost Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.
Seven other victims – Dabliu, 33, Anju, 33, Abdullah, 5, Urni, 16, Purnima, 30, Afroza, 60, and Sagor, 12 – are being treated at the hospital.
Burn unit resident doctor Dr Partho Shankar said: "Six of them are in critical condition."
According to Shafiqul Islam, senior station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Uttara, the victims lived in a flat on the ground floor of a three-storey building.
Three units of the fire service rushed to the site and extinguished the fire. The fire-fighters rescued the injured and hospitalized them in DMCH burn unit.
Most of the victims are ready-made garment workers, the fire service officer said.
