The High Court will hear the bail plea of renowned photographer Shahidul Alam in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
The bench of Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman said on Wednesday that the hearing on the bail plea will be included in the cause list of the upcoming week.
However, Shahidul's lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua, who submitted the petition, said the High Court is likely to hear the plea on Sunday, reports UNB.
This is Shahidul Alam's second bail petition submitted to the High Court in the case.
On Monday, the High Court ordered the concerned lower court to address the bail petition filed by Shahidul by Tuesday.
Later, Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge's Court denied bail to the photographer.
The bail petition was filed on August 28.
On September 4, one of the judges of a two-member High Court bench felt embarrassed to hear the bail petition. Later, another bench was formed to hear the petition.
A day later, the High Court directed the concerned authorities to provide first-class division status to Shahidul in jail after hearing of a writ petition.
Shahidul was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and the case was filed against him with Ramna police the next day. He was also placed on a seven-day remand.
Police claimed he spread propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding safe roads.
