Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two alleged drug traders, including a woman, and seized 25,000 yaba tablets in Dhaka.

Those detained - Mamunur Rashid, 35, and Minara Begum, 35 – were apprehended in Mohammadpur on Sunday night.

RAB 1 Commanding Officer (CO) Lieutenant Col Sarwar Bin Kashem confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune saying: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB 1 members raided a house of Mohammadpur's Nabi Nagar Housing project in the area of road no 6, and held them.

"There, we recovered around 25,000 yaba pills, two mobile phones, and Tk30,550 cash. The market price of recovered yaba is around Tk1.25 crore."

He also said Mamun has been trading yaba on the side of his tea stall business and he has been doing it for a long time.

Meanwhile, Minara lived in Teknaf, selling firewood. She met a person named Din Mohammad, in the yaba business, and then transported yaba pills from Teknaf to Dhaka, he added.

The CO said Mamun was supposed to receive Minara at Uttara's Rajlakshmi area and then deliver the tablets to Mohammadpur together. They had planned a delivery to two other places later, but they were detained.

"We will take legal action against them," Lieutenant Col Sarwar said.
