Every trace of sacrificial animal waste was removed from the streets of North Dhaka within 24 hours of Eid-ul-Azha, the mayor for the city corporation says.

“With the cooperation of city dwellers, we have successfully removed 100% of the waste of sacrificial animals within 24 hours,” Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor Jamal Mostafa told a press conference at Nagar Bhaban on Thursday, reports BSS.

“This year, more of the city dwellers have responded by slaughtering their sacrificial animals in the DNCC designated spots than in previous years.”

The mayor said around 8,500 tons of waste were removed from the DNCC areas and that around 9,500 cleaners worked to clean the northern half of the city within 24 hours of the festival.

Both DNCC and DSCC started removing animal waste at 2pm on Wednesday, as per a prior announcement.

At a press conference at Nagar Bhaban, DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon said the city corporation had removed 90% of the animal waste from the streets of South Dhaka within the 24 hours.
