The remains of animals to be sacrificed on the day of Eid-ul-Azha will be cleaned out of Dhaka within 24 hours, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor Md Jamal Mostofa said on Monday.
He made the statement while speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Waste Management Committee members at Dhaka North Nagar Bhaban, reported UNB.
"We hope we will able to clean the city within 24 hours on the Eid day," he commented.
Councillors and higher officials were present at the meeting.
The panel mayor also called upon the residents of Dhaka North to slaughter their animals at 549 designated spots within the city corporation.
At least 183 designated spots will be shaded, he added.
The panel mayor further said they had the capacity to remove 10,000 tons of waste in a day, and that under DNCC at least 9,500 cleaners, 2,700 of whom are the city corporation's own employees, will work for waste management during Eid.
The city corporation is already at work, cleaning the 10 cattle markets in the DNCC regularly to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, he added.
