A group of Dhaka University students held a candlelit protest at the Raju memorial sculpture of the university on Thursday evening, protesting country wide attacks on students who took the streets demanding safer roads.
They sang the national anthem and the Rabindra Sangeet “Muktir Mondir O Sopanotole” to press home their demand for the attackers to be punished.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra League also held a rally against “terrorism,” at the Aparajeyo Bangla statue of the university.
Addressing the rally, Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Golam Rabbani said they had identified seven hundred Facebook IDs that had spread rumors during the road safety movement.
“We have spoken with ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar about the rumours on Facebook, and asked him to take action against the perpetrators,” he added.
He also urged Chhatra League leaders and activists to stop any attempt to celebrate fake birthday of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on August 15.
Bangladesh Chhatra League President Md Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon presided over the rally.
Chhatra League DU unit President Sonjit Chandra Das and General Secretary Saddam Hussain, Dhaka Metropolitan North President Mohammad Ibrahim and General Secretary Saidur Rahman Hridoy, and Dhaka Metropolitan South President Mehedi Hasan and General Secretary Jobaer Ahmed addressed the rally, among others.
