A student of Shaheed Smriti Police College was seriously injured while taking part in student protests at his college near Mirpur 10 circle on Tuesday. He has been admitted to Square Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Dhaka.
Police had reportedly used batons against the students to disperse the protests, severely injuring one student.
Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dadon Bhuiyan, and Kafrul Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Aslam Uddin, denied the attacks.
Nure Alam, father of the injured student, told the Dhaka Tribune that his son underwent an operation for injuries he had received to the head, between midnight and 3:30am on Wednesday, at Square Hospital.
Doctors say the operation was successful, and he has been transferred to the ICU, but updates on his condition will be available once he regains his senses.
Students from numerous colleges, and some universities, have been out on the streets since Sunday. They are demanding punishment for the bus driver who killed Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, and injured several other Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College students, when he ploughed into them.
