Traffic rule violation: DMP collects Tk9.81 lakh in fine

36 vehicles were dumped and 332 other vehicles were put on the wrecker during the day-long drive

The Traffic Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed 2,246 cases for violating traffic rules and collected Tk9.81 lakh in fine in a drive in Dhaka.

In the day-long drive, conducted on Friday, 36 vehicles were dumped and 332 other vehicles were put on the wrecker.

Sources at the Traffic Department said its members filed cases against vehicles on various charges including violation of traffic rules, using hydraulic horn, beacon light, dark-tinted glass, as well as for plying the vehicles on the wrong side of the road.

Among the cases, 161 cases were filed for plying the vehicles on the wrong side of the road, 53 for using hydraulic horns, three for beacon light and eight for using dark-tinted glass.

Preferring anonymity a senior police officer said: “Cases were also filed against 620 motorcycles for violating traffic rules and 38 other motor cycles were seized during the time.

“The Traffic Department of the DMP has been conducting special drive as part of its routine work.”
