Dhaka Tribune journalist Faisal Rahman dies of cardiac arrest

Journalist AKM Faisal Rahman Kishwar passed away at the age of 33 on Friday. Around 12 noon, Faisal visited his friend Yasir Wardad Tanmoy at his home, where he complained of chest pains. As the pain grew, his friend took him to Ibn Sina Hospital in Shankar, Dhanmondi around 1:15pm. After conducting an ECG, doctors on duty declared him dead around 2pm. His namaz-e-janaza was held after the Isha prayers at Taltola Mollapara Mosque in Agargaon. Faisal Rahman was the district coordinator for the Dhaka Tribune. Previously he worked for The Independent, UNB and New Age. Faisal Rahman was actively involved in film movements. He was a member of Chalachitra Andolon in his student life and Chhobir Lorai after that. His key areas of interest were agriculture and rivers. During his stint as a journalist, he had worked and contributed to numerous reports in these fields. He produced a documentary film, “Bt Brinjal in the Dock,” which tells the story of the genetically modified venture in Bangladesh from the farmers’ point of view. The film was a collaborative effort by around 30 activists and journalists, including Zaeed Aziz and Delowar Jahan, whose investigative work was featured by GMWatch. He studied English literature at Jahangirnagar University, and was attached with AFM Kamaluddin Hall. The Dhaka Tribune family mourns his untimely demise.
