Shringla: Dhaka-Delhi ties multi-faceted

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla has described relations between Bangladesh and India as “multi-faceted.” The relations today cover cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas including security and border management, trade and commerce, investment, connectivity, energy and power, space, developmental projects, culture, and greater people-to-people exchanges, he said. “In the last nine years, India and Bangladesh have been able to make more progress in furthering bilateral relations than we could in the preceding years,” Shringla said while addressing the 69th Republic Day reception on Friday night. The high commissioner said they also continued to lay strong emphasis on strengthening people-to-people connection by taking further initiatives to improve access to Indian visas for Bangladesh nationals. The number of visas issued by the Indian high commission has nearly doubled, from 750,000 in 2015 to 1,400,000 in 2017, he mentioned. Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali who attended the function as the chief guest laid emphasis on further broadening ties between the two neighbours. Ministers, advisors to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, lawmakers, political leaders, officials of Bangladesh Armed Forces, civil servants, businessmen, cultural and academic personalities, and senior journalists were present at the event.
